Staff favourites

Congratulations and welcome to Rotterdam! So what’s next? Explore the city like a local and let us guide you with our top 5 of staff favourites!

# 1. Rent a bike
In a country where there are more bikes than people (16 million inhabitants, 18 million bikes), you need to spend a day cycling around the city. By far the cheapest and most efficient way to see everything! Ask our staff for detailed information and must-go places. Tip: urbanguides offer great daily bike tours!

#2 the land of windmills!
Of course your trip to the Netherlands isn’t complete without visiting the windmills in beautiful Kinderdijk!  Situated only 25 kilometres from Rotterdam, the mills provide you with amazing pictures and a good impression on how the millers and their families used to live. Easily to reach by ferry (only 13 euro for a return trip) or on a guided hostel tour for 15 euro (Wednesdays and Fridays).

# 3 Festival Fun
In Summer there are weekly events and festivals throughout our city! Food, music, art, films, you name and we got it! Mostly for free and always guaranteed a great atmosphere and audience! See for more information Rotterdam festivals or we own Rotterdam.

# 4 Fenix Food Factory
Located in a former industrial warehouse this is the new place to be in town. A laid-back alternative space for those who love food and culture out of it. Perfect for an afternoon of eating, drinking, and chilling with friends.

#5 Waterfront
With more than half the country at or below sea level, it’s hard to avoid the water! Discover the biggest Port of Europe by Spido boat, have a picknick at the river Maas or beautiful hotel New York or take a dive in lake Kralingen. Rotterdam has it all!
