Motel Mozaique - MOMO19th, 20th, 21st April
The affectionately known MOMO (Motel Mozaique) is an homage to the city of Rotterdam - an experiential festival that showcases different elements of the city, from new, local and international music, to performance art. In its 17th year, the event is inspired by the city itself and its music scene; and beauty in the known and unknown, the harmony and the clashing elements for those experiencing it. This is THE place to see up and coming bands and artists in Rotterdam. The event is aimed at guiding you through the city, as a music inspired experience. As they say - “Let’s lose ourselves in Rotterdam”!
The heady mixes of music and art make this festival something really special in the city - challenging perceptions, inviting guests to join in and experience the familiar and unknown, and presenting plenty of surprises. This year see collaborations including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra with a German techno DJ - one of many inspired concerts taking place.
There’s a choice of day passes, or get the ‘full monty’ 3 day ticket to make the most of the events. With a ‘no barriers’ policy, the idea is you can make the most of the city through art, music, sleeping in it, and be guided through it - all as an experience.

Koningsdag: King’s Day in Rotterdam27th April
Koningsdag, or King’s Day, is the biggest celebration of the year and famous for orange revellers filling the streets and bars as the whole of the Netherlands throws a big birthday party for the Dutch King! Infamous amongst the backpacking tribe, this is one Dutch party not to miss this spring. The festivities include funfairs and a carnival atmosphere, plenty of live music and DJs, boat parties on the canals, traditional flea markets (the free markets -‘vrijmarket’ where anyone can sell their things in the street) and plenty of kid friendly activities to enjoy. It’s not all beers and boats, but there is a lot of that too! The parties stretch to every town in the country - although the big stages for music events are in Rotterdam and nearby Amsterdam each year. With a mixture of musical genres, street parties and big stage concerts; here’s the low down on what’s going on for King’s Day 2018 in Rotterdam!
‘Orange Bitter’ Concert; OranjebitterThis bombastic orange themed party is in it’s 10th year and has become a big part of the King’s Day celebrations. With a huge music stage hosting a big concert on Friday 27th April at Het Park (at the Euromast), this is one party not to miss. With a funfair and great atmosphere, the Oranjebitter concert is one of the highlights for King’s Day in Rotterdam each year.
With a secret line-up (an eclectic mix of dance, techno and hip hop) this fabulously orange party is going to see it’s 10th anniversary celebrated in style - don’t miss out!
For Dutch home-grown music try Code Orange - a big party in the centre of the city by the Stadhuisplein. This is a ticketed street party with local artists including Boef, Tino Martin and Mr Polska. This is definitely one with a carnival atmosphere- especially if the weather is good!
For something completely different and one of the biggest parties in Rotterdam, try the Kralinsgse Bos Festival: six stages of live and electronic music, taking place in the forest. Check out their awesome line up and get the budget friendly tickets here.
For family fun; try the Royal Rollerdisco which has a whole host of fun performances and activities, the dance special Sweet Kingsday in Spinoza Park, the bicycle parade in Prinsenpark, or Liskids is taking place at Liskwatier. Here they have a free market of vintage clothing and children’s toys, kids workshops and live music performances. Tropical Kingsday also has children’s events taking place at their party.
There’s also a FREE mini-festival at the cool Noordplein with a line-up of local talent, food and drinks at Container Bar North. Find the list of this year’s events here.
